Stacking The Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Team Human by Justine Larbalestier & Sarah Rees Brennan (purchased)
Alice In Zombieland by Gena Showalter (thanks to Publisher)
Legacy Of Tril: Soulbound by Heather Brewer (purchased)
Pushing The Limits by Katie McGarry (purchased)

So I already had a copy of Team Human, but I wanted the Australian cover as well so I decided to double dip. It helps that I’ve already read and loved the book 😀 Thanks to HarlequinTeen for the copy of Gena Showalter’s new book. It reminded me that I really need to get onto Twisted sometime soon. I think I’ve had it waiting on my shelf for about a year now. I’ve only read the first Vladimir Tod book, but I keep buying more of Heather’s books whenever I see them. I think I need to start marathoning some series to catch up rather than starting more debuts. That said, it didn’t stop me picking up a copy of Pushing The Limits. I keep seeing people rave about it, so I thought ‘why not’.

Just because Mel lives in New Whitby, a city founded by vampires, doesn’t mean she knows any of the blood-drinking undead personally. They stay in their part of town; she says in hers. Until the day a vampire shows up at her high school. Worse yet, her best friend, Cathy, seems to be falling in love with him. It’s up to Mel to save Cathy from a mistake she might regret for all eternity!

On top of trying to help Cathy (whether she wants it or not), Mel is investigating a mysterious disappearance for another friend and discovering the attractions of a certain vampire wannabe. Combine all this with a cranky vampire cop, a number of unlikely romantic entanglements, and the occasional zombie, and soon Mel is hip-deep in an adventure that is equal parts hilarious and touching. Acclaimed authors Justine Larbalestier and Sarah Rees Brennan team up to create a witty and poignant story of cool vampires, warm friendships, and the changes that test the bonds of love.

Final Thoughts:
This book should have come with a warning label. I almost choked my own incessant laughter amongst a fit of coughing and spluttering. I was constantly grinning like a kid on Christmas over how thoroughly I found myself loving Mel and her vampire-boyfriend eradicating ways. Breathing sarcasm, and backed by a heavily rooted disliking of vampires that wanted to date her friends, Mel was the kind of character you just glom onto and don’t want to let go of. The plot seemed a little flimsy to start with, but it quickly grew beyond the initial premise, adding in a mystery, angsty friends, and cute guys.

So it’s been a few weeks, but I haven’t been getting many books lately–couple that with moving house again, and an utter lack of reading time that came with that and you end up with absence of things to post. I actually got both of those Before I Wake‘s the week before and moved it to the top of my pile. I really like that series–especially If I Die, so it was good to come back to Kaylee and her gang. I’ll probably be starting Team Human in the next few days. It’s co-author by Sarah Rees Brennan–one of my favourites–so I’m pretty excited to see what she’s come up with. A girl trying to stop her best friend from dating a vampire…yes, I wanna read that! Also, thanks to Jay Bell for sending me a signed copy of his book. It carries the pink theme along nicely. Anyway, that’s about it for me this week. Happy reading 😀

Title: Team Human (Team Human #1)
Authors: Justine Larbalestier & Sarah Rees Brennan
Published: July, 2012 by Harper Teen

When a vampire shows up at Mel’s high school, it’s up to Mel to keep her best friend from falling in love with him. Add a mysterious disappearance, a cranky vampire cop, a number of unlikely romantic entanglements, and the occasional zombie, and soon Mel is hip-deep in an adventure that is equal parts hilarious and poignant.

I’m not sure if that’s the final synopsis, as it seems a bit short. Still, I can’t wait to get my hands on this one. A girl trying to save her best friend from the hot vampire guy who’s just rocked up at school sounds like an awesome book. Plus, with Sarah Rees Brennan as one of the authors, there’s no way I can’t read this.
