I’ve been missing around here for a while. Reading took a back seat, spending my free hours after work writing a short story I needed to get done. Anyway, I just picked up the latest Cassandra Clare book in hopes of drawing me back in again. I know not everyone loves these newer books in the series, but I can’t wait.

“Then you tell me why his body isn’t there, because it isn’t,” she said, her voice finally breaking. “There’s nothing up there but a lot of blood and broken glass. They’re both gone, Simon. Jace is gone…”

I’m really enjoying this one so far. Steven’s POV is really interesting. I don’t really have any idea what’s going on, but it has a mob-family vibe to it.

I stand and look into his eyes, my body swaying slightly.
“You don’t look so good. You okay?”
There’s a smile slowly spreading across his face.
“Yeah, I’m fi-fine. Wwhy?”
I stand there trying to read his expression. It changes by the second. “Did you put something in my beer?”
He smiles. “Why would I do that?”

Also known as The Space Between, I’ve had this one sitting around for nearly two months now, so I thought I’d better get to it. I love that it’s about demons, but I’m finding it hard to get into so far. The writing alternates between past and present tense depending on the POV.

His heart was hammering in his chest. When he pressed his palms against his eyelids, he saw squirming red shapes, afterimages of his dream.

It wasn’t one of the bad ones – not a bloody bathtub or a hospital room. It was not a dark, decrepit church. Not a funeral full of crows. This time, he’d dreamed about the girl.

My pre-ordered copy finally arrived yesterday and I couldn’t wait to get into it. Luckily for me, I’d just finished my last book so I could slot it right in. Loving Will so far, but Jem’s not doing so bad either…

“She’s a mundane—an Ascendant,” Jem said quickly. “Soon to be my wife.” He took Tesssa’s hand protectively, and turned it so that Gottshall could see the ring on her finger.

There’s definitely a triangle going on here. Personally, I’m liking Lincoln so far in this Australian angel series, so here’s a little snippet between him and Violet that stood out to me.

“Do you really think that exile can protect you? Are you really sure he isn’t the very thing you should be running from?”
I half laughed. “That smacks of jealousy, Lincoln.”
He didn’t look up. “Of course. Isn’t that what you were aiming for?”

This is from the prologue, so there’s no Nora in this scene. I had to include this teaser because I thought blood-hungry Patch was awesome! I’m liking where this is going, although because of a mound of textbook readings I have to get through, I’m only a couple chapters in so far.

“A mind trick?” the angel scorned. “Don’t bother. Make the call,” he commanded. “If she walks free in the next two minutes, I’ll kill you quickly. Anything longer than that, and I will rip you apart, one piece at a time. And trust me when I say I will enjoy every last scream you utter.”

I’m half way through this one. It’s starting growing on me. It’s just taken me a while to click with Riley. Beck is a more interesting character, so I’m glad this book is told through dual POV’s.

The reaction was immediate. Riley’s shriek nearly deafened him as she shot straight up off the mattress. He forced her down as she screamed and cried, her fingernails digging into the flesh on both his arms. He winced at the rush of pain as she forced his healing wounds. No matter how bad it hurt, it was nothing compared to what she was feeling. Come on, girl, pass out, will ya?
