Title: Origin Of Darkness (Daeva #2)
Author: Daniel A. Kaine
Published: November, 2012

Mikhail and the gang believe the war between vampires and humans to be over. They hope that the two sides can begin to bridge the gap and work together once more. What they are about to realise, is that they’ve only just hit the tip of the iceberg.

As the characters try to move on from the war, they find themselves uncovering secrets and painful memories that reveal new motives and hidden agendas, and all while trying to stave off an evil that has been trapped for over three millenia.

How will the gang deal with the aftermath of the war? What new dangers lie in store for them as darkness threatens to consume their world once more? And how will they cope when a secret is outed that one member thought was buried for good?

I really enjoyed the first book in this vampiric dystopian series late last year, so it’s no wonder that I can’t wait to get my hands on its sequel. With a horribly awesome cliffhanger, it’s been a torturously long wait already. There are mumurs of that date moving forwards though–let’s hope so!

Title: Death And The Girl Next Door (Darklight #1)
Author: Darynda Jones
Published: October, 2012 by St Martin’s Press

Ten years ago, Lorelei’s parents disappeared without a trace. Raised by her grandparents and leaning on the support of her best friends, Lorelei is finally beginning to accept the fact that her parents are never coming home. For Lorelei, life goes on.

High school is not quite as painful as she thinks it will be, and things are as normal as they can be. Until the day the school’s designated loner, Cameron Lusk, begins to stalk her, turning up where she least expects it, standing outside her house in the dark, night after night. Things get even more complicated when a new guy—terrifying, tough, sexy Jared Kovach—comes to school. Cameron and Jared instantly despise each other and Lorelei seems to be the reason for their animosity. What does Jared know about her parents? Why does Cameron tell Jared he can’t have Lorelei? And what will any of them do when Death comes knocking for real?

Okay, so it has a love triangle with two guys who wanna kill each other, a serving of stalkerish behaviour, and the angel of death…yeah, it sounds like it could be a mess, but I’m going to be reading. Sounds fun!

Title: Team Human (Team Human #1)
Authors: Justine Larbalestier & Sarah Rees Brennan
Published: July, 2012 by Harper Teen

When a vampire shows up at Mel’s high school, it’s up to Mel to keep her best friend from falling in love with him. Add a mysterious disappearance, a cranky vampire cop, a number of unlikely romantic entanglements, and the occasional zombie, and soon Mel is hip-deep in an adventure that is equal parts hilarious and poignant.

I’m not sure if that’s the final synopsis, as it seems a bit short. Still, I can’t wait to get my hands on this one. A girl trying to save her best friend from the hot vampire guy who’s just rocked up at school sounds like an awesome book. Plus, with Sarah Rees Brennan as one of the authors, there’s no way I can’t read this.

Title: The Watchtower (Black Swan Rising #2)
Author: Lee Carroll
Published: 4 August, 2011 by Bantam Press

Warning: This is Book 2 in the series, so there may be spoilers in this summary.
Jewelry designer Garet James is still coming to terms with the astounding revelation in BLACK SWAN RISING that she is the last in a long line of women sworn to protect the world from evil. Now she has received a sign from Will Hughes, the 400-year-old vampire who once helped her defeat the evil threatening to destroy New York City. Hughes, tortured by his own violent history which is vividly reenacted here, has asked her to join him on a quest to rid himself of his curse of vampirism. While looking for Will in Paris, Garet encounters a number of mysterious figures — an ancient botanist metamorphosed into the oldest tree in Paris, a gnome who lives under the Labyrinth at the Jardin des Plantes, a librarian at the Institut Oceanographique, and a dryad in the Luxembourg Gardens.

Each encounter leads Garet closer to finding Will Hughes, but she realizes that she’s not the only one who’s trying to find the way to the magical world called the Summer Country. As Garet struggles to understand her family legacy, each answer she finds only leads to more questions — and to more danger…

I’ve been in a reading frenzy this past week and a half, trying to make the most of my break between semesters at Uni. Amidst all of my library books, I stumbled upon the first book, Black Swan Rising, in this new urban fantasy trilogy. You can check out my review here if you want to find out more. It was such a suprisingly enjoyable read, I really couldn’t put it down. So I’m eagerly awaiting this next instalment. Luckily, it’s only a few weeks away. I went and pre-ordered myself a copy as soon as I’d finished the first one.

Also, my giveaway ends this Sunday, so if you haven’t already entered, check it out for a chance to win one of the books in The Demon’s Lexicon trilogy.

Title: Dark Souls
Author: Paula Morris
Published: 1 August, 2011 by Point/Scholastic

Welcome to York, England.
Mist lingers in the streets.
Narrow buildings cast long shadows.
This is the most haunted city in the world. . . .

Miranda Tennant arrives in York with a terrible, tragic secret. She is eager to lose herself amid the quaint cobblestones, hoping she won’t run into the countless ghosts who supposedly roam the city. . . .
Then she meets Nick, an intense, dark-eyed boy who knows all of York’s hidden places and histories. Miranda wonders if Nick is falling for her, but she is distracted by another boy — one even more handsome and mysterious than Nick. He lives in the house across from Miranda and seems desperate to send her some sort of message. Could this boy be one of York’s haunted souls? Soon, Miranda realizes that something dangerous — and deadly — is being planned. And she may have to face the darkest part of herself in order to unravel the mystery — and find redemption.

I love this cover. Admittedly that’s what first drew me in. From the gothic text, to the bricked alleyway, to that eerie mist… I’ll stop myself there and get back to what’s really important. The story. I haven’t read Paula’s first book, Ruined (which has a similarly designed cover), but it appears from the blurbs that they are standalones, maybe in the same universe, I’m not sure. When I read it was a book set in England, with ghosts, and adding in two mysterious boys, yes it had my interest piqued. There’s only five weeks until this one’s released, so not long to wait now. I’m going to have to remember to pre-order it soon.

If you haven’t already entered my INTERNATIONAL Giveaway, check it out for a chance to win one of the books in The Demon’s Lexicon trilogy. (Ends 17th July 2011)

Title: Devoted (Elixir #2)
Author: Hilary Duff
Published: 11 October, 2011 by Simon & Schuster

Since Sage was kidnapped, Clea has no way of knowing if he is alive or dead. And even though she has only just discovered they were soulmates, she feels like a part of her is lost forever. What’s worse, she can’t even turn to her best friend Ben—because every time she looks at him, all she sees is his betrayal.

But waiting for something to happen is not an option, so Clea is ready for action. Suffering through dreams of seeing Sage with another woman, she makes an uneasy alliance with Sage’s enemies and sets out to be reunited with Sage…in this life or the next.

I know celebrity written books tend to get frowned upon, but Elixir was actually quite enjoyable. If you’ve been avoiding it like the plague because of the author, maybe try it from the library and see what you think. It plays heavily on reincarnation, soul mates and immortality. And after the way the first book ended, it was begging for a sequel. I’m glad that’s happening. I’m not too fond of the cover design change though. The first book really stood out with its faux-suede purple cover with the flower, which had relevance to the story. It seems they’re trying a new direction with the artwork, and I think it looks too generic now. Either way, I’ll still be buying.

Title: Twisted (Intertwined #3)
Author: Gena Showalter
Published: 30 August, 2011 by Harlequin Teen

SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD ADEN STONE HAS HAD A HELL OF A WEEK. HE’S BEEN:
Tortured by angry witches.
Hypnotized by a vengeful faery.
Spied on by the most powerful vampire in existence.
And, oh, yeah. Killed – twice.
His vampire girlfriend might have brought him back to life, but he’s never felt more out of control. There’s a darkness within him, something taking over… changing him. Worse, because he was meant to die, death now stalks him at every turn. Any day could be his last. Once upon a time, the three souls trapped inside his head could have helped him. He could have protected himself. But as the darkness grows stronger, the souls grow weaker – just like his girlfriend. The more vampire Aden becomes, the more human Victoria becomes, until everything they know and love is threatened. Life couldn’t get any worse. Could it?

I love the cover for this, but that’s not why I’m waiting on it. The first two books, Intertwined and Unraveled were a whole lot of fun, full of vampires, werewolves, faeries and witches, so you’re certainly not lacking in the paranormal department. The point of difference though is that Aden’s head is home to four other souls with special abilities: Seeing the future, Time travelling, Raising the dead and Possessing other people. Amongst all of that, romances ensue and trouble comes looking.
