It happened again. It’s been months since I’ve posted one of these. Work’s been busy, life’s been busy–I’ve just been super time poor. Also, I haven’t bought that many books. I’ve just been letting the few I’ve gotten accumulate in a pile before I tackled the task of finding somewhere on my over-stuffed shelves to squeeze them in. Personally, I think I need a whole new set of bookshelves. My current ones are looking ready to fall apart. I’d really like to get some built-in ones–wall to ceiling once I’ve built my own house. I think that would look awesome.

For now, though, I’m just getting more books. I don’t really know when I’ll read any of these as I’ve read only the first of Gena Showalter, Veronica Roth and Brigid Kemmerer’s books and none of the other series yet–oh, except for The Mortal Instruments, so I could potentially jump into Magnus’ bunch of stories anytime. I just need to get in the mood for a giant book. I’ve actually just finished reading Sarah Rees Brennan’s Unmade, the final in that trilogy. My review will come soon as I’ve thought it up. It’s just so hot this weekend, that I can’t really bare to sit a the computer for an extended period. I need ice cream, and I need it NOW. With that said, I’ll leave you to your stinking hot weekends–or chilly, depending on which side of the world you’re on.

So, what books have you gotten lately? Let me know what I should be checking out in the comments.

Geek Girl by Holly Smale (library)
Shattered by Teri Terry (purchased)
Tape by Steven Camden (purchased)
Until I Die by Amy Plum (purchased)
The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet by Bernie Su & Kate Rorick (thanks to Publisher)
The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken (library)
The Distance Between Us by Kasie West (library)
The Thousand Dollar Tan Line by Rob Thomas & Jennifer Graham (library)
Soulmates by Holly Bourne (library)

I went to the library Thursday night looking to pick up the copy of The Darkest Minds that my friend, Brittany, had told me to read, but ended up walking out of there with an armful. Hopefully, I actually get time to read them before they’re all due back. That’s always my problem, I see everything I want and snatch them up, then they just sit in a stack beside my desk for the month while I go on reading other books that I’ve ordered online.

Thank you to Simon and Schuster for sending me a copy of the Lizzie Bennet book. It wasn’t what I was expecting in the mail this week, but it was a nice suprise. I’m going to give it to Joey to do a guest review for me though. He’s actually read Pride and Prejudice so he’ll probably enjoy a lot more than I would.

Lastly, as of about an hour ago, I bought these last three books: Shattered, Tape and If I Die. I even walked a 5km round trip up and down hills to get them. There were big red banners posted in the windows of my local Mary Ryan’s bookstore/cafe announcing a 50% off pre-refurbishment sale that I’d noticed earlier and had me intrigued to check out the normally to-expensive-for-me store. There was more there I could have gotten, I even had them stacked in the crook of my elbow, but I convinced myself to do the right thing and leave them there (as much as it didn’t feel like it). I rewarded myself afterwards with a trip to the anime and manga store (and just browsed!)

Here’s what Joey and I have been reading this week:
Johnson, Mo Boofheads – Aussie YA coming of age story that Joey found.
Perkins, Stephanie Lola and the Boy Next Door – AWESOME! Bring on Isla.
Rowell, Rainbow Attachments – Fun, heartwarming, loved it.

So, what books have you gotten lately? Which books would you recommend I read first? Let me know in the comments.

Take Me On by Katie McGarry (purchased)
Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins (purchased)

Firstly, CoHF, why is that book so large? It looks good on my shelf, but I was so tired after reading it. I feel like it could’ve crushed me if I’d fell asleep reading it in bed. I mean, I enjoyed it, but it just could have been shorter. I needed to read a Rainbow Rowell book after it to recharge.

I found the other two hardcovers, Broken and The Dream Thieves for $8 each at an independent secondhand bookstore I just discovered in a residential side-street. I’ll be going back there. There wasn’t a huge selection, but it was fun seeing what random YA books they had sitting in a tall stack there.

I picked up Take Me On last weekend during Big W’s 10% off sale. I’m still yet to start the series, though, so it’ll be gathering dust on my shelf for a while. However, after how much I loved Anna and the French Kiss, Lola and the Boy Next Door went straight to the top of my to-read list as soon as it arrived. I’m either starting it today or tomorrow depending on whether I get sucked into watching a Nikita marathon this afternoon. I just finished Fringe yesterday, so Nikita‘s next on my list of TV to watch.

Here’s what Joey and I have been reading this week:
Clare, Cassandra City Of Heavenly Fire – This ate up practically my whole weekend.
Haas, Abilgail Dangerous Girls – Joey took this one on to see what all the hype was about.

So, what books have you gotten lately? Which books would you recommend I read first? Let me know in the comments.

I started buying the Morganville series a few years ago when those 2-book bind ups were being released. It’s such a long series, that I figured it would be the best way to buy them. They released up to book 8, but fast-forward three years and the rest look like they’ll never be made to match. Spotting these four on eBay for $20, I gave in and snapped hold of them. Now I’m just left looking for books 9, 10 and 11. Perhaps at the big, upcoming Lifeline sale if I go along.

The other three I bought were (The Fallen books and Fractured) only to fill up holes in the series I’ve started collecting, but haven’t actually started reading. I seem to be doing a lot of that lately. I’m only hoping that I’ll actually enjoy them, perhaps when I reach retirement age and find the time to catch up on my endless tbr list 😉 For now, they’re going on the shelf to collect dust for me.

I also got to the library this week. I love going there, but have to keep forcing restraint on myself. The month goes by so quickly and I’m still sitting here with books due back because I’ve either gone and bought something, or a book I’d pre-ordered has arrived and the library ones get forgotten as I dive into something else. Joey’s helping me with that at the moment. He’s reading Dangerous Girls while I plow through the 700 or more pages of City of Heavenly Fire. (It turned up after I’d taken this week’s photos and couldn’t be bothered re-staging our little photoshoot for one extra book).

Missed these posts? Here’s what we’ve been reading:
Brody, Jessica Unremembered – Thanks for getting me onto this, Kelly. Loved it.
Carter, Ally Perfect Scoundrels – Joey took another stab at the series, getting himself up-to-date.
Perkins, Stephanie Anna and the French Kiss – WHY DID I NOT READ THIS SOONER?

So, what books have you gotten lately? Which books would you recommend I read first? Let me know in the comments.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell (purchased)
Attachments by Rainbow Rowell (purchased)

My Book Depository order arrived (in five separate packages) this week. I’ve already dived in and finished Anna and the French Kiss in the past couple days. My review will be up Monday! As for the rest, I can’t decide on which to start next. I’ve got a few others I’ve been meaning to start, but Anna arrived and they got pushed back. I am looking forward to starting Pivot Point though, but I’m thinking staying on top of the library books I’ve got out is more pressing.

It’s my mum’s birthday this weekend, so I’m probably not going to get much reading done though. She’s coming to visit and hit the markets with me, so I’m busy doing some baking, baking…and more baking. A cream-cheese iced carrot cake is first on the agenda. It’s kind of a birthday tradition in my family. Anyway, I’d better get back to the kitchen!

Here are some of my latest posts if you want to check them out:
Carter, Ally Heist Society #2, Uncommon Criminals – Joey discovered his first case of Second-Book Syndrome.
Healey, Karen Guardian Of The Dead – I struggled a bit with this.

Shadow Of The Mark by Leigh Fallon (purchased)
The Temptation by Aubrey Clark (purchased)

I got a lot of J.R Ward books…a lot. I found these on eBay, $30 (incl. postage) for the lot. I had been wanting to get the Aussie covers, because, well, these covers aren’t really for me, but at that price I could forgo them looking pretty on my shelves. Here’s hoping I still enjoy the vampire series. It’s been a few years since I read the first two.

There’s a distinct purple-ness to my book haul this week. I finally decided to give in and get a copy of Heartbeat, adding it to my pile of contemporaries I want to check out this year. I haven’t been able to find a copy of The Girl In The Clockwork Collar in-store, but I’m going to keep trying. I picked up the third in the series in case it disappears in the mean time. Why is it so hard to find previous Harlequin releases in Australia once the next book in a series comes out? It’s exactly why I’ve been collecting Julie Kagawa’s books with each new release even though I haven’t even started this series yet.

The rest are some bargain books I picked up on the cheap in order to finish off or fill out missing places in series I’ve been collecting. I did read Blood Feud back in 2011, but I’m not sure what happened in it anymore. I recall a family of vampires, and…caves, maybe. I’m not sure. You can see it didn’t leave a lasting impression on me. I’ve got books three and four on my shelves already, but I don’t think I’ll be getting around to them any time soon. I’m waiting on my TBD order to arrive with some other goodies I want to check out.

Here are some of my latest posts if you want to check them out:
LaFevers, Robin His Fair Assassin #1, Grave Mercy – Joey’s guest review.
Terrill, Cristin All Our Yesterdays #1, All Our Yesterdays – LOVED this!
Westerfeld, Scott Uglies #2, Pretties – Wasn’t for me.

That’s it for this time. So, what books have you gotten lately? Which of these books would you recommend I read first? Let me know in the comments.

Backward Glass by David Lomax (purchased)
Dark Heart Surrender by Lee Monroe (purchased)
Spellcaster by Claudia Gray (purchased)
Steadfast by Claudia Gray (purchased)
Tiger’s Destiny by Colleen Houck (purchased)

I just realised my blog turned three this week. Wow, that time went fast. It’s hard to think back to a time before I was blogging, before I was reading. The two pretty much coincide with each other. I only started reading (things other than uni textbooks) about six months before I started this blog, before then, I was a tv-show-on-dvd addict.

So…onto the book buying. I did a bit of shopping all around the place this time. I picked up The Rook, Backward Glass and Spellcaster from my local bargin-bin shop. I’d been a bit on the fence about starting Claudia Gray’s latest series, but finding it for a couple dollars sealed that decision. Even if I don’t end up loving the books, it was worth it to have these beautiful covers on my shelves.

Dark Heart Surrender was another one of my online purchases. I found it cheap, and needed it to finish off the trilogy, so I thought I’d better snatch it up while the price was low. As for Tiger’s Destiny, I’m not a big fan of the covers, but I heard good things a couple–maybe a few–years back and decided to start collecting them. So now I just pick them up whenever I come across them. It’s another one of those ‘one day’ series for me.

Here are some of my latest posts if you want to check them out:
Asher, Jay & Mackler, Carolyn, The Future of Us – Loved this book!
Carter, Ally Heist Society #1, Heist Society – Joey’s guest review
Westerfeld, Scott Uglies #1, Uglies – Thought I should finally start this series
